The largest public garden in the Midwest boasts more than 1,137 acres and 45 plant collections, including a rose garden, hosta glade, rock garden, herb garden, sensory garden, maze garden and home demonstration gardens. The popular Three-Mile Drive passes through collections of trees, shrubs and ornamental grasses. There's also 12 miles of walking trails through prairies, bogs and forests. $9 for ages 16 and up; free for members and youth 15 and under. Also free Thursdays Nov. 1-April 24. April 25-Oct. 31, free after 4:30 p.m. every third Thursday.
