Why creep into downtown St. Paul for the annual Fall Art Crawl when you can zip in for free on the Green Line light rail? For the first crawl since the Green Line launched in June, the Metro Transit system and the St. Paul Art Collective are providing free rides to the event. The passes — good for all bus and light-rail lines except the Northstar commuter train — will be accepted Saturday and Sunday only. The shindig includes the usual family events, street music and fun food. Plus art. Get a head start on holiday shopping by buying, straight from an artist, an irresistible one-of-a-kind painting, print, photo, pot, textile or ornamental whatnot. Train fans will be rewarded with a special treat Friday night when the facade of Union Depot will be turned into a film screen. Actually nine screens, each 35 feet tall, will be hung between the depot’s columns. Todd Boss, co-founder and artistic director of Motionpoems, will project four short films (4 to 5 minutes each) inspired by new poems on the theme of “Arrivals & Departures.” Catch them between dusk and 10:30 p.m. Mary Abbe
