The Twin Cities Jazz Festival turns sweet 16 this year, with a fair amount of cosmopolitan star power. Besides headlining sets from New Orleans sax titan, Branford Marsalis (8:30 p.m. Friday June 27), and "Goodnight, And Good Luck" soundtrack singer, Dianne Reeves (8:30 p.m. Saturday June 28), get set for the following treats, all on the two Mears Park stages: the return of Peruvian guitar ace and composer, Andres Prado, with his quintet that's now-named Mississippi (5 p.m. Friday); the TC debut of impressive young Chilean saxophonist, Melissa Aldana, with her Crash Trio (6 p.m. Saturday) and always-engaging world-jazz master percussionist Babatunde Lea (7:15 pm. Friday). And of course many of the finest Twin Cities jazz acts will be out in force, some with their own international reps. In the park, on the street corners, and in the bars, you'll find Anthony Cox, Red Planet, Eric Kamau Gravatt, Adam Meckler Orchestra, Illicit Sextet, Good Vibes Trio, sundry hip singers, and young piano ace Javi Santiago, back home from New York City. And that's a very small sampling of a big, strong line-up.
