Ottmar Liebert

Flamenco-flavored guitar star Ottmar Liebert is back in town, touring in support of two brand new releases. The electric album, "three-oh-five," features fresh material that's a bit more funky than you might expect, as Liebert pays overt tribute to Motown Records/Funk Brothers great, Wah Wah Watson. He also subtly echoes some other fabled guitarists never found in "new age" record bins: Nile Rodgers, Paul Jackson, Jr., Carlos Santana, Jeff Beck. It's all done in his patented smooth and commercial way, of course. The acoustic "Bare Wood 2002-2012" recycles past tracks such as the ever-enticing, "Sand," removing all electronic instruments and adding more flamenco guitar licks, acoustic bass and cajon drum parts.
