“When I heard this record, I looked at myself in the mirror and started making out with myself,” is how Black Label Society frontman Zakk Wylde (jokingly) described last month’s “Catacombs of the Black Vatican” to Rolling Stone in January. The larger-than-life metal guitarist, 47, has led BLS since 1998, following years of shredding for the Prince of Darkness himself, Ozzy Osbourne. The Wylde man is five years sober, and “Black Vatican” is a return to headbanging following last year’s live and acoustic “Unblackened” release.
