Magnum Chorum

For its spring concert, the choir Magnum Chorum welcomes Anton Armstrong as guest conductor. The African American conductor of the world-renowned St. Olaf Choir leads a program ranging from familiar classical pieces to celebrations of the African-American spiritual and gospel tradition. Music by Mendelssohn and Bach is joined by Ken Jennings’ “The Lord is the Everlasting God,” Ralph Johnson’s “Lord, Thee I Love” and Robert Ray’s jazzy “Gospel Mass.” The spiritual tradition is represented the triumphant “Ride On, King Jesus” by Moses Hogan. A lullaby by Daniel Elder and music by Horatio Parker and F. Melius Christiansen round out the program. William Randall Beard
