St. Paul Chamber Orchestra

The highlights of this week's Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra Chamber Music series concerts are works by Latin American composers. Argentinian composer Osvaldo Golijov's "Mariel" for Cello and Marimba, written in remembrance of a friend who loved the music of Brazil, frames two works by Brazilian master Heitor Villa-Lobos, who melds Brazilian folk music and the European classical tradition in his "Bachianas brasileiras" No. 6 for Flute and Bassoon and "Assobio a Jato (The Jet Whistle)" for Flute and Cello. Also on the program is music of Mendelssohn and Dvořák, including Dvořák's "American" Quartet. William Randall Beard
