JazzMN Orchestra

After several cool bar shows over the years as valued sideman, first with fellow Puerto Rican David Sanchez's great combo, later with the all-star SFJazz Collective from the Bay Area, alto saxophonist and composer Miguel Zenon appears this time as a special guest of the JazzMN Orchestra. Zenon's career got a big jump-start when he became a MacArthur "genius grant" winner, and he's also nabbed a Guggenheim grant and some Grammy nominations. And while Miguel's playing and recording experience has mostly been with small to mid-sized groups, he has made CDs with the Jason Lindner Big Band and the Mingus Big Band, and performed live often with the long-running Village Vanguard Jazz Orchestra. So he clearly has some large ensemble cred, and could be an inspired choice in the visiting dignitary role. Tom Surowiczz
