Even in these enlightened globally-connected times, it's still a tad surprising to find that a group called the Celtic Fiddle Festival features two Frenchmen (Christian Lemaitre, fiddle; Nicolas Quemener, guitar), and a French Canadian (Andre Brunet, fiddle). Even the group's lone Irishman, the amazing fiddler Kevin Burke (of Bothy Band fame), was born and raised in London, and has spent the bulk of his adult life in the Pacific Northwest, in Portland. That just goes to show the great reach and popularity of Celtic music, which has always been prevalent in parts of France, Canada, and Spain, and certainly cherished here at Cedar Cultural Center and The Celtic Junction. Nobody puts strings to bow better than the Celtic Fiddle Festival folks, who celebrated their 20th anniversary last year with a splendid concert CD titled, "Live In Brittany." It's highlighted by a medley of two lovely tunes with the unlikely titles of "Soggy" and "Waterboogie." Tom Surwicz
